Social Value: The VCSE Sector and Public Procurement

  • Friends' Meeting House 6 Mount Street Manchester, M2 5NS United Kingdom (map)

The Conservative Party Conference for 2021 is taking place between 3rd to 6th October 2021 in Manchester.

VSNW have secured a spot as part of the Fringe Listings for the Conference, and want to use this opportunity to champion the role of the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector in the North West and to challenge the Conservative Party and it’s members to better work with the VCSE sector to positively shape the future of the North West.

From 1st January 2021, the government’s new social value framework has been applied to new central government procurements in order to maximise social value benefits and develop a more consistent approach to social value. The current priority areas within the framework are:

  • COVID-19 recovery

  • Tackling economic inequality

  • Fighting climate change

  • Equal opportunities

  • Wellbeing

All organisations applying for funding and contracts will require to set out how they will deliver social value and implement ways of ensuring it is delivered and monitored.

The VCSE sector, by its very nature, is a critical success factor in producing social value. The ethos of the sector is to support communities to thrive and improve outcomes experienced by communities, whether that be through supporting access to employment and training, improving rates of digital inclusion or delivering programmes that fight climate change in a way that works for local communities.

Therefore, VSNW want to utilise the Conservative Party Conference by holding an event that promotes the VCSE sector as key providers of social value through effective government procurement, and better increase Conservative Party members of how to best work with the VCSE sector.
